The Family Goes Down Under
(The following is a True Story, as reported by Wheels)
I have long enjoyed the friendship of my good friend Edwin from New Zealand. As often said, the beauty of the “boards” is that many friendships have/were formed while enjoying the banter about this machine that we have come to enjoy. Much of that give and take has now moved over to Facebook where there are no worries about foolishness. From time to time Edwin and I chat over the phone and share a few laughs and stories. Not long ago Edwin let it be known that he was coming to the states and was excited to participate in the Ride to the Wall. It was cool to track his excitement and planning as he created a Facebook page that documented all of his plans. I was honored to see that one of this plans included a trip down south to catchup with ole Wheels.
Well, as some of you know, Edwin had the misfortune of getting mixed up with a biker that was part of the Ride to the Wall that went down and in doing so took a couple of riders out, with Edwin being one of them. Thankfully no one was hurt badly, but it completely changed his plans. He was forced to return to Phoenix where he rented a car in an effort to still make it the The Wall. While many of his plans changed, Bart had pulled together a ride and gathering in Knoxville that Edwin still planned to attend. Well, who was I to not want to ride in the Smokies, hang with some good friends, enjoy a trip to the Tellico Grains Bakery, and of course some good BBQ.
Edwin had no idea that I was riding up and what a hoot it was to surprise him. Now of course we needed to make sure that he was not only welcome to the States, but also to the Family. So, as the Don of the Mid-Atlantic Mob (MAM) Family, he was presented with his official Capo Shirt and of course, a little nip of Crick Water. Than we were off to do a little riding. All in all, it was yet another good time shared with some great people.
