I have a 2002 Hannigan Europa that I bought used. It's in really nice shape, but the paint is in bad shape. It is also black, which I don't like. It makes the trailer look like a coffin.
I'm not going to mess with color matching, because I will probably be replacing my bike in the next couple of years. I want to paint it something like a charcoal gray or even silver that will go with most colors.
For you guys that have had your trailers painted, what kind of price can I expect a shop to paint this for? I am capable of at least sanding and repairing the defects. The paint shop would only have to do the final prep.
I have thought about painting it myself since it isn't an overly complex job compared to other paint jobs, but in the past I have found that I don't have a great touch with a paint gun. I know just enough to be dangerous. I also can't paint it in the shop, and I think my garage is just too dusty for painting. (It has open ceiling joists.)

Final Prep, Prime, Wet Sand, Paint (Base Coat & Top Coat), Clear Coat, Final Buff: $600-$650. That's for a Quality Job using Quality Paint and Materials in a Quality Facility/Booth. You can get it done cheaper, an "Earl Sheib" type Booger-Job in a tarped Carport Booth for around $300-$350 if that's all you are wanting. Do that and you will be looking to do the tear-down all over again in a couple years and paying the $650 anyways at a later time. But, if you are going to get a new Bike and new Color in a couple years, I can understand if you do. Then again, if you are sure you are gonna do that, I'd just let it be for now, keep the $300, and do the Quality Job to match the new Bike then.

A $600 job is about what I figured. I can deal with that.
I'm concerned with it being durable. Not looking for anything show quality. Since this is an 02, it doesn't have the matching taillights, and I'm not worried about matching paint. I just want it to look presentable.
I can do better than Earl Sheib quality myself.
I am the 3rd owner. I think the original owner bought it unpainted and did it himself. The paint is really soft, and he put the bra on before the paint was cured. The paint is all bubbled under the bra. It looks like it has water drops on it. The fiberglass was never prepped properly either. There is a lot of waviness to the finish.

Roger all that. Must have been one of those "Booger-Jobs" done by a Prev. Owner or Sheib-Shop prior to you. Ain't nothing that can't be corrected with a few Benjamins.

Larry Try to find someone who can shoot Dupont Emron. It's generally used in the aircraft/commercial field and it is both durable and showroom clean. Pricey but awesome. www2.dupont.com/Coating_Solutions/en_US/assets/downloads/E-R4614_Imron_Elite_Brochure_E.pdf

Timely topic Larry as I am thinking about having my trailer painted to match the Trike and looking for suggestions on where and who to have it done by.

That is a thought, but you are right. Imron is expensive. I had my old Mustang painted with Imron a number of years ago. I don't think it has quite the color depth and sheen that other paints have, but it sure is durable, and is probably a good choice for a trailer.

I don't know what shops around here do good work, and finding the time to do the research with my side business is not easy. It takes time.
