Guys, the set I got was from Lewis at Electrical Connection. He thought he had found a source and was going to offer them through the E/C site. He bought three pair. Unfortunately, the distributor lost the access to their supply. He hasn't found a new source yet, but....this is basically the kit you need and is the same as the one I got:
DDM Motorcycle HID Kit
Get either 4500K or 5000K color temperature. Anything lower than 4500K will be yellow and higher than 5000K goes blue. 5000K is pure white. DO NOT get the 55w lights. They are WAY TOO BRIGHT!!! The 35W are twice as bright as the 55w halogens.
The next thing you need to do is READ THIS INSTALL GUIDE!!!
H7 INSTALL GUIDE
Several points to mention.
1. They're not showing a Goldwing install, but it's very similar. Here are a few items you'll need to change for doing the install on the wing. Also, DO NOT remove the protective housing from around the HID bulbs until you are ready to install the bulb into the bike's housing. You can test fit the trimmed spacer without the bulb.
2. On Step 9, you will have to trim the edge of the spacer so it fits into the bulb receptacle correctly. Be careful not to trim off too much. DO NOT cut off the four t1ts at each corner, but the one big tit next to the index finger shown in the photo has to go. DO NOT cut off the tit between the index finger and the thumb shown in the photo. That one helps line up the spacer into the bulb socket.
Here is the same photo that is in the install guide with some additional instructions added:
3. In step 15, get rid of that rubber "gasket" around the wires. It's useless and is in the way, as shown here:
4. All the drilling through the rubber gasket is not necessary. The OEM gasket already has the hole. Be sure to put the HID wires through the gasket before plugging them into the OEM headlight harness. It'll be clear when you do the install.
5. In step 16 when you plug the wires into the headlight socket, to get them to stay in, bend them a little. If you're looking at the spade lugs head-on, bend them slightly into a "v" shape before you slide them into the socket. Use wire ties to tie the headlight socket wires and the wires going to the HID's so as to make a strain relief. In this picture I added red lines to the image so you can see what I mean about bending the lugs (sorry the pic is a little fuzzy):
6. Once you get the spade lugs pushed into the OEM headlight socket, connect everything and turn on the lights to make sure they work. If they don't, reverse the wires going into the headlight socket. Also, secure the wires as shown in this picture to help prevent the connectors from coming out of the OEM headlight plug:
7. The digital ballasts will fit under the left and right pockets with plenty of wire to reach the lights. For those with an '06-'10, removing the instrument cluster (or pulling it up out of the way using a bungee cord) will make it easier to get into the lights.
The cool thing is you don't have to run power to the ballasts. All power for the lights come from the headlight sockets.
When I installed mine, the first one was a PITA getting the spacer trimmed right. Once I did that one, the second one was a breeze. Less than an hour to do both.
And remember, you need H7 for the GL1800. Be sure to save the plastic covers that are around the HID bulbs. They're great for storing your old H& bulbs.
Good luck!
PM me if you have specific questions or if you doing an install and have a question. I'll try to get my bike apart tomorrow or Friday and take some pictures of the install and write up a "How To."
