Don't know if any changes over the years (coolant or pumps), but silicates in coolant were blamed for GL1000 through GL1200 water pump seal failure. I've stayed with Honda, but buy at the auto dealership where it is ~50% the price.

For the bike, they marketed in quart bottles and priced 50% higher. Marketing 101.
