My Alpin is eating the wear bars and TireRack (and everywhere else I've searched) no longer has any. So, I have a 195/55R-16 Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D DSST Run Flat ordered from TireRack. I'll let everyone know how it goes. Will probably have it mounted next week at a local Walmart.

If you want to save yourself some major dollars and get slightly used tires from eBay!, I have once seller I have been dealing with for the past 4-5 years. I get the Continental ConProContact SSR's 195/55/16. They usually have between 7-8/10 of their tread life left and I get them for $50-$70. Never had a bad one, they wear fairly well and their price is hard to beat. Of course, you can get whatever flavor you like, but this is a good option if you want to save some money. Here is an example.

Thanks, I may check that out next time. For now, the Dunlop will be in tomorrow.

After a few days commuting on the Dunlop, it feels about the same. Maybe a little less following ruts. Have not had the chance to test it at a spirited pace yet. Or in the rain (but did well on a wet road). Judy took the tire and wheel to Walmart to get it mounted for me on her day off (no, she's MINE!) for all of $10.

Last year I ran a Yokohama Avid Envigor & it seemed to ride pretty rough compared to the Alpin, expansion joints on the highway were much more noticeable even running 28-30 psi. Wore that out this spring & ordered a Bridgestone Driveguard ROF and have about 1300 mi on it so far. Traction seems good an the ride quality is much better than the Yoko and was much cheaper. I have had a set of these on my car for a couple of years & they give good traction and seem to wear pretty good so we will see how they do on the bike. A significant portion of the interstate I travel has rain grooves, the Driveguard handles them no problem and the expansion joints are much less jarring than the Yoko.

A little update. After a four-day trip through various mountain roads out of Bryson City, NC, I'm pretty pleased with it. Found that it feels better at a little higher pressure than the Michelin. I have it now at ~33 psi and this feels great. Two-up felt fine, twisties handled with confidence (although I wasn't ridding at all that spirited a pace). Much better in tire ruts than the Alpin.

My first CT about five years ago was the Dunlop WinterSport. As I recall, I had absolutely no complaints with it. I had about 22K on it when I ran over a horseshoe nail. I still had a couple of thousand miles estimated life in it but chose to go with the Michelin Alpin instead of plugging, patching, etc. That was on my old 08 Wing. I've stayed with the Alpin and now have one on my 2015.
