With the demise of GWRRA and the local chapter I participate in not doing ANY riding, I started riding with an internet group. Yep, no CBs but they did create the opportunity to expand my riding and communications.
I must admit the Sena 50S is an awesome bluetooth/MESH unit. I rushed to get the Sena Freewire to connect to the audio/CB options on my 2004 Wing. I am still having an issue with getting the pairing just exact. But I think it is how I paired some of the bluetooth devices and the order I did it in.
One issue I'm stumped by is the muffled mic transmission over the CB. I don't know if the muffled situation is just the CB or if it also affects the MESH communications and might also be a reason that the voice commands are not consistent.
Could the wind sock on the mic be causing the problem?

<...> Could the wind sock on the mic be causing the problem? Probably not. In fact, it might not be helping enough. The Sena unit has a LOT of tweaks that can be made both thru the PC-based firmware update software as well as the app on iPhone or Android. Spent a few weeks two-up playing with our 50S setup. It's nearly as sensitive as our wired miles when it comes to picking up wind noise. Nothing short of fiddling around (and taking copious notes...) for you to identify the ideal settings, it would seem.

I'm wondering if the VOX is my issue? I am guilty of reading before using on that one. I read that a lot of Sena 50s owners had to adjust their VOX from the default setting of 3 to 4 and before I actually had anyone to communicate with I made that adjustment thinking "if everyone has had to increase the VOX setting, I should do it now".
I'm going to return it to the default setting and see if it makes a difference.
And yes there are a slew of settings to review.

Well, I reset my VOX levels back to the defaults and it appears that the mic is responding better and the tx is clearer. Still not able to see if the reset has made the CB tx clearer yet.
I'm getting much more happier with going the Bluetooth route. Not having the cords to deal with is a pleasure. I have found there is a pairing hierarchy that makes getting the connections quicker than just having everything "on" at the same time.
1) Power on the Sena 50s 2) Power on the Sena Freewire (actually having it connected to the left storage box power "cigarette" unit turns it on when the bike is started) 3) Power on the Garmin Zumo 595LM (I just keep it leaning in the RAM Mount cradle and click it in after the Freewire is paired)
I haven't done the phone part yet - that is my next route.
