I realize that it takes time for a forum to build a presence, but what is it going to take to get this board going?
When I look at the list of members here, most folks that have joined so far are established members from the other board, just like me, that have been around for years. We have all asked most of the questions about the Wing that we will ever need to know answers to. So there ends up not being a lot to talk about.
Does that mean we need newbies to the Wing to help?
Are we just all trying to be too polite because we are in Lewis's house? Are we avoiding debates so that we don't show our darker side around others?
The other board is getting worse by the week it seems. They are now infiltrating Private Messages and altering the text of our messages if we mention anything that is related to an outside website. That is really creepy.
I have a utility that Firefox has for download that shows the trail of websites that you connect to when you visit a site. GL1800Riders.com had 18 third party sites connecting to my computer when I checked it this morning. That is twice as many as CNN.com and ESPN.com That is a very, very large company that bought that forum. They now own most of the major motorcycle forums on the Internet.

Good points Larry. Obviously one Solution is recruitment. Two ways to do that,,, Promotion or Attraction The later is usually the best in order to GET the "Best" and not simply pad the Membership with "fodder" and/or warm bodies. Keeping a Watchful Eye at the Gate is warranted. Suffering Fools in the quest for numbers isn't prudent. Also think it's important not to end up with a Clique of like-minded same-thinking Yes-Men. That is BORING and leaves the Place with nothing more than the Choir preaching to the Choir with the blessings of the Preacher(s). Most of us know a Prime Example of That BS.
With the Situation and Schism that exists and grows fast at the "Old", I think it won't be too long until many others, just as We, find this Community and it will grow and thrive in due time. Patience, Participation, Purpose and Planning. Takes an equal mix of all.

So many questions first thing in the morning Larry..........I'm kinda thinking Lewis wanted to get most of us old timers together here to continue to grow our friendship. Unlike the other board, this is no place to put friends against each other. I'm thinking we as a group can handle the growth and off color remarks as friends. With the help from Lewis this will become a new home for us.
The newbies should be welcomed, we were all there at one time.
The other board is just another board taken over by a company who has no interest other than revenue. The moderators are just puppets and are on some kind of high. Value has gone down, friendships ruined, and a lack of interest will destroy a once great place. The whiners/felons/wannabees are rewarded and now in charge, I'm sure you have noticed they are all out of the closet and running the show. I go there now just to get a laugh.
Debates are great......even I can be civilized. Now if I can everyone else can.
Thanks for the post, I'm interested in seeing where this goes.

All good points. We need to get the word out that this site is up and running. I have reached out to many friends. It's still the riding season for many and for some, regardless of "how bad it is or gets," old habits are hard to break. Bart really did a bang up job with bringing in all of his "how to" information and I need to do a bit of a better job with a few more Trike related topics that I can add. For me, well, I just did not want to be the first to reach a 1000 posts, LOL.
I was thinking that adding the "states" might be good for those that like to talk more locally about their rides and such. This is a great group and a good foundation. Just need to get the buzz out there.

One thing everyone can do is not only tell their "friends," but also just flat out stop visiting and utilizing the other board.
Do what Matt did and say Goodbye or don't say anything at all. Either way, just stop visiting the board and posting. Once others start realizing that they can't get the help or support they once had, they'll start trying to find out where everyone went. The word will get around. I just updated my signature on the other board and it simply says "So long and goodbye."
Lewis can help this by advertising this board on his website! Every page that has a Goldwing product should have a link to this board.
Also, everyone should participate more on this board. If visitors don't see a lot of traffic, they'll be come disinterested fairly quickly.
The big thing we all need to do is let everyone know and then get everyone to participate.

As Wheels said, all good points, except for that patience suggestion. I have never been a patient person.
I don't like to argue, but I love to debate. I want people to offer rebuttals to my posts. I want to be challenged. That is how we learn.(I want people to agree with me once in awhile too.)
Every company needs its leaders and followers to survive. They need executives, managers, experienced hourly workers, and beginners. They all play an important part. I think a forum needs the same variety.
A previous post also mentioned the fear of developing a clique where this just turns into a mutual admiration society. Nobody wants that. (I hope.)
You are right Bart. Breaking the big board habit is the first step.

The old forum grew because we had wonderful motorcycles that we wanted to learn more about. When comments began to become increasingly political/religious/acrimonious, I began posting much less frequently. I hope that won't happen here. I hope that we can all be civil and helpful, even when we're answering the same question for the umpteenth time. We were all new once, and not everyone is at the same skill level when it comes to using the Internet and forum software, so it takes a little more patience with some folks. The old chat room worked because everyone was accepted as an equal, regardless of skills, grammar, spelling or punctuation. I consider the friends I made there to be the best of my life. It's good to see so many of them showing up here!

I read all the replies and after this post all motorcycle forums will be removed from my drop list and I will no longer participate on any of them.
It seems that society has become trained to lay down and accept all things and to never speak up for right or against wrong and those things in life such as current events are not acceptable for discussion. So motorcycle boards become coated with only vanilla.
There is always a sign at the door, in those areas where controversial subjects can be discussed, however many do enter these areas and when things do not go their way they do begin to cry and run to Mommy and declare they hurt my feelings.
It is just like seat belts in a car. Although we all know this is safer to wear them, the way it began was a few hurt themselves and soon they demanded that all be placed under the blanket of protection.
Such is how forums have become one demand must become the rule of the land for all. It is no longer important that there is even a sign at the door, that sign and that door means nothing, as the bottle of vanilla is good for all.
Personally I need no help to change my oil or fix my motorcycle, I do like to help others sometimes but I also like controversial subjects, yet the rule of the land says no,no, the sign at the door is not valid and so most forums are as the Wingstuff forum and totally dead.
This forum does have a Parking Lot intended for such subjects, however the lesson learned is that if you do participate in such a place many will by permission enter but also run to cry and as we have seen on the other forum this crying is honored and so all are gun shy to voice a simple fact that the pickles they ate were terrible.
So all just say, those pickles were very good. The vanilla flavor is acceptable.
I went fishing yesterday and had a grand time, drift fishing for very large Catfish. A couple of them were beyond 50 pounds as my scale only goes to 50 pounds. It was a nice sunny day and between bouts of action I did a lot of reflection upon life in general and the past events on these forums.
I do not like crime, I do not like thugs, I believe in a creator but despise mans religion, I also despise all of our current politicians and the entire political system. I have no love for cops that run about and harass the public for revenue, and also shoot unarmed citizens. We have had 14 unarmed citizens shot by the police this year in South Carolina.
Current events are a part of life, all the things of life are a part of life, so when these things are taboo to discuss and all the pickles come with a vanilla flavor there is no longer any interest.
See ya all, and yes I know do not let the door hit me in the part that goes through the door last. Lol!
We have a saying in the South, stick a fork in my and call me done.
I am well done. Time to go fishing again, take my wife for a ride up to the Outer Banks and enjoy what is left of life.
When liberalism becomes the law of the land upon forums it is time to say...........GOODBYE.

I'm sorry you feel that way Kit. When we did sit and chat I always enjoyed your views, but a man has to do what he has to do. I don't take anything personal, even your dislike towards police officers, my skin has always been tuff, it came with the job, and as you know I have always been out spoken as well. We all have a purpose in life just like those bottom feeding cat fish you hunt for. It is what it is my friend, you go with the flow or you just quit and I would hate to think you are a quitter. No vanilla there.
I hope you come back and perhaps join some of us on a few rides, one coming up on November 1st and I know you have ridden further for a cup of coffee. Enjoy your time on the water and with your wife and remember I am always some place if you want to visit your welcome anytime.
For the record.......I hate cat fish and the only good pickle is a fried pickle, vanilla on the other hand only if it's french vanilla.
Best wishes
